What is perfectionism?

Perfectionism is the refusal to accept any less than perfection from ourselves, and sometimes from others. To add to the problem, it corresponds with a focus on negative self-criticism & others’ evaluations, often stifling our abilities to try new things.

Some of the ways perfectionism can manifest is:

  • allowing ourselves no room for error

  • focus on efficiency, effectiveness or the end result only - no joy in the process or allowing yourself room to learn and grow

  • feeling worthless and/or depressed when we don’t achieve the desired outcome

  • having extremely high standards, oftentimes, unattainable ones

  • having a harsh and loud inner-critic

  • having a lack of acceptance for different ways of doing things

  • feeling paralyzed; procrastinating in waiting for the “perfect” time

  • feeling like nothing - including yourself - is ever good enough

you are good enough!

the impact of perfectionism

Feel like you’re always stuck while trying to get ahead?
Exhausted from trying to maintain perfection endlessly?

Want to learn to ways to accept your own humanness and free yourself from the exhausting treadmill of the impulse to be perfect all the time?

Perfectionism is relentless. As soon as you feel you’ve “made it,” three’s another goal taunting you, telling you that you’re not good enough. It can take all the joy out of achieving something new. It can swipe your efforts right off the table, rendering them useless in your thoughts.

Perfectionism is NOT about “doing your best”, it’s actually an attempt to shelter yourself from criticism, shame, and/or ridicule.

Perfectionism takes over your entire life and makes everything HARD.

Are you looking for a kinder, less demanding way? Know that I offer compassionate, empathetic therapy free of judgement.
